As Internet sites and content propositions mature, web site owners are looking to extend their reach to new formats and new devices. In an initiative designed to promote convergence, Sky Interactive has developed a ground-breaking Internet-style e-business portal that enables web site owners to easily extend the content and services they currently host online to interactive TV. 

The new portal leverages the success of the Internet and the proliferation of Sky set-top boxes. The portal enables a new class of site, designed for TV, which can provide the functionality and value of the web in an easy and accessible form to a new mass audience.

On 28 July 2005, Sky hosted a highly successful conference at the BAFTA Theatre in London to launch SiteControl. SiteControl is an online facility at SkyInteractive.com where web site operators can register, test and launch their interactive service. SiteControl enables web site operators to deploy their services free of charge, bringing interactive TV within the reach of small businesses and individuals for the first time. 

With momentum building, Sky will soon announce the launch of SiteControl Pro, a more sophisticated version of SiteControl designed to allow larger operators deploy multiple sites on the new portal. The advanced options offered on SiteControl Pro will be available for purchase from a simple ratecard.

Sky customers will be able to access services through a TV portal service to be launched later this year. The consumer portal allows Sky viewers to access to sites through SkyKey shortcuts or familiar URLs, as well as a search engine. They will also be able to save personalised links to sites and review their site history.
